first Moments Session
Prep Guide

Here's all you need to know before your session.

Before your Session

  • Try to feed your baby right  before your session time, if possible. That way we will start with a happy baby! Or if you’d like any feeding/nursing photos or video, just let me know and I’ll make sure to capture that!
  • Make sure the house is extra warm. This will make your baby much happier throughout the session!
  • What should parents wear? You can pick something comfortable. Neutral and soft colors work great for newborn sessions. Casual clothing and bare feet look very natural for at-home sessions.
  • What should the baby wear? The idea of a lifestyle newborn session is to look very natural, so you can pick something simple. I know there are a lot of cute newborn outfits out there, but most of them can be distracting in photos. A neutral color onesie looks great, or even having the baby just in a diaper. Try to pick something that keeps the baby’s feet uncovered.
  • Accessories are great! Headbands are super cute for girls. Swaddle blankets are also great for variety (here’s a shop that sells some beautiful ones). Let me know what you’d like to use at the beginning of the session.
  •
  • if your session is at home, try to tidy up the space a little, but don’t worry about it being perfect. Just throw some things in a closet if needed! I typically take photos/video in the nursery, living room and parent’s bedroom.

During your Session

  •
  • We can take as many breaks as needed, seriously! Don’t feel bad if you need to stop for a diaper change, to feed your baby or simply if your baby is fussy. We will work around their needs.
  • Let us know if there are any specific photos/scenes you really want captured.
  •

And if you have any other questions, just send me an email! 🙂
